Day Twenty-Five - A Home for My Boys

Things were starting to look so beautiful. I was happy. I could smile again. I felt loved, and after everything I had been through, it felt so good.

But I still had a mission: I wanted to buy a home for my children.

See, my children have always come first—before any man or anything else in my life. And having four boys in a small one-bedroom apartment was so hard. You know how kids are—they would fight, and there just wasn’t enough room for everyone.

My son Anthony always wanted his own room. That stayed with me. Being able to give him that, and give all my boys more space, meant more to me than anything.

So I worked day and night. Day and night. Until I landed a huge contract. I was so excited! All that hard work was bringing me closer to something I wanted so badly for my family.

Then one day, while I was walking my dog around the block, I saw six houses being built. They weren’t even halfway finished, but I stopped and looked at them.

“I want one of these houses,” I said to myself.

I thought about my boys. I thought about Anthony finally having his own room. And I knew I had to find out how to make it happen.

I remember calling the man who was building them and asking, “How do I buy a house—especially one of yours?”

I didn’t know all the steps yet, but I was ready to learn. I had worked so hard to get us this far, and now I had something new to work toward.

A home for me and my four boys. That was my next goal.
