Day Twety-Four - An Unexpected Friendship

Now that I was finally free of that debt and the burdens that came with it, I could breathe again. And life had a surprise waiting for me.

I met someone who lived in the same apartment building my sister owned. I lived downstairs, and he lived upstairs. We became best friends.

Between his children and my four boys, we had seven kids—and they got along so well! There was always laughter, playing, and something going on.

He was married at the time, and I was still dealing with my obsessive ex-husband. Our friendship became a bright spot in the middle of everything.

One day, I noticed his mother visiting, and she looked upset. At first, I didn’t understand why. As I learned more about what was happening, I realized he and his mother needed help with the children. So I started helping.

When I picked up my children, I picked up his too. And when I needed help, he did the same for me. We showed up for each other.

The kids became best friends. We went to the park, played together, and spent so much time together. It was the best friendship, and those simple moments meant so much to me.

Then came a day I will never forget.

We were all at the beach playing football. I had the ball, fell down on the sand, and he fell right on top of me. Suddenly, all the kids started chanting:

“Kiss her already! Kiss her already!”

There we were, on the sand, with seven kids cheering us on. We were becoming our own little Brady Bunch! LOL.

That friendship became the beginning of some of the best years of my life.

Looking back, what meant the most was having someone show up for me while our children laughed and played together. After everything I had been through, it felt so good to laugh like that again.
