Day Nineteen - From Panic to Power

I Was Learning Along the Way

My days were filled with taking care of my boys and figuring out how to earn the next dollar. There wasn’t much time to stop and think about how far I had come.

Every jewelry party, every shirt I decorated, every chocolate I sold, and every cleaning job was helping me learn how to build something of my own.

At the time, I was thinking about paying the bills and taking care of my boys. I didn’t have a business plan. I had children depending on me and a determination to find a way.

But I was learning how to talk to people. How to ask for an opportunity. How to keep my word so someone would call me again. And how to keep trying when something didn’t work out.

For so long, I had heard words that made me doubt myself. Yet here I was, finding work, making sales, and figuring things out every day.

Maybe I needed to start giving myself credit for that.

I didn’t have all the answers, but I had more experience than I realized. Everything I had done to keep us going was something I could build on.

I thought I was just finding ways to pay the bills. Looking back, I can see I was learning how to become a businesswoman.
