As I look back on my younger years, I realize how many different struggles were feeding my anxiety.
School was difficult for me. Reading, spelling, and certain health issues made me feel different, and I worked hard to hide what I thought were my imperfections. I didn’t want anyone to see that I was struggling.
But trying to cover everything up only created more anxiety.
There were times when I would feel like I was having an asthma attack. My throat would feel like it was closing, I couldn’t catch my breath, and I would become terrified. At that age, I didn’t understand that anxiety and panic could show themselves in so many different physical ways.
It is mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting—especially for a child who doesn’t understand what is happening.
People may see a child sitting quietly in a classroom, but they don’t always see the battle happening inside.
When I was young, anxiety wasn’t talked about the way it is today. We didn’t have the same understanding, resources, or conversations. You were expected to get through it and keep going.
Every day I was trying to get a grip on something I didn’t even have a name for it ❤️
Looking back now, I understand that these were all pieces of my journey. And there is still so much more to tell.
