Day Sixteen - From Panic to Power

The hustling continued, but now I needed to find another source of income so I could support my children on my own. I didn’t want to remain on public assistance. I wanted to build a better life for my family—and I was determined to find a way.

One day, I saw an advertisement in the newspaper for an opportunity to sell jewelry through a company called Omni Jewelry. I will never forget that day because it became a turning point in my life.

There was an event at Eastwood Manor, and I had only five dollars to my name. My mother watched my children while I took the bus there. I didn’t know exactly what would happen, but I knew I had to try.

When I arrived, I met a young woman who gave me advice that stayed with me forever.

“Pick up your head,” she told me. “Be confident. People will follow you, but you have to believe in yourself first. You have to walk, talk, and act like you already have it—and eventually, you will.”

It was difficult to feel confident when I had no money in my pocket and no steady income coming in. But I remembered her words. I lifted my head and walked as though I already had everything I was working toward.

And people began to follow me.

I worked for the cleaning company during the day, and at night I hosted jewelry parties in people’s homes. I kept pushing myself because I knew my children were depending on me.

Eventually, I built a team of more than 50 people. I trained them to host their own jewelry parties, and I earned money from every person working under me.

For the first time, I was earning enough money to provide a beautiful apartment for my children. I was so proud of what I had accomplished.
