Building a Cure: My Journey
I am writing to share a deeply personal story—the story that inspires the work I do and the mission I pursue with passion and purpose.
When I was just 14 years old, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had always been my protector, my strength. Suddenly, I found myself becoming his caretaker. In a matter of months, I was forced to grow up—transitioning from child to adult far too soon. The hardest part wasn’t just caring for him—it was knowing how much it hurt him not to be able to protect his little girl anymore. Six months later, I lost him. It broke my heart.
Years later, cancer came back into my life. My mother, my best friend and guiding light, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She, too, fought courageously, but we lost her. Losing both of my parents to cancer left me broken, but not without hope. I longed for a cure—something to stop this pain from striking others.
In my search for answers, I came across the American Cancer Society and was moved by the information, advancements, and potential we now have to fight this disease. I knew in that moment: this is my way to help. I’ve always believed that one person can make a difference. Maybe—just maybe—that one person could be me.
With that belief, I hosted two successful fundraisers in 2015 and 2017, raising significant funds for cancer research and support. Now, I am proud to announce that I am doing it again—and I need your help.
Please join us on October 3rd for “Building the Cure: A Night to Conquer Cancer.”
Together, with friends, family, and generous hearts, we will make this event unforgettable. We will raise funds. We will share love. And we will fuel the search for a cure. Visit https://buildingacure.com for more information. You can purchase tickets for the gala.
With heartfelt gratitude,
