Day Twelve - From Panic to Power

Physical and emotional abuse should never be accepted—and it is never the victim’s fault.

Abuse slowly convinces us that we aren’t enough. We begin believing the cruel words repeated every day:

“You’re not smart.”
“You’re not pretty.”
“You have four children—no one else will want you.”
“You’re dumb.”
“You deserve this.”

Those words are meant to keep us trapped. Before long, we start questioning ourselves: Did I do something wrong today? Did I make him angry? Did I say something I shouldn’t have said?

That is what abuse does—it makes us blame ourselves for someone else’s behavior.

But once we recognize the abuse, reach out for help, and begin changing the way we speak to ourselves, we can break free. One of us must find the courage to break the chain so this painful cycle does not continue through our children and our children’s children.

The abuse was never your fault. You are worthy of safety, love, and a life without fear.
